Patches 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the 3rd Specialized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, formed on March 9, 2022 on the basis of the Azov territorial defense unit, which began to be created in Kiev from the first days of the Russian invasion of 2022; On January 26, 2023, it was transformed into a separate assault brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In February-March 2022, the unit actively participated in the defense of Kyiv(Ukraine) and the Kyiv region.
On March 9, 2022, the territorial defense unit "Azov" was reformatted into a separate special-purpose regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Azov".
The fighters of the territorial defense unit "Azov", together with other units, liberated from the invaders the cities: Vasilkov, Vorzel, Irpen, Bucha, Gostomel city, Pushcha-Voditsa, Lyutezh, Gorenka, Stoyanka and the Moshchun city.
